Stephen is a Chartered Financial Analyst, Certified Financial PlannerTM and holds an undergraduate degree from Grand Canyon University in business with emphasis in economics. His role on our team is Portfolio Manager. His expertise is in asset allocation, value investing, and small capitalization stocks.
Stephen is actively involved in his profession and community. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and the Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR). Stephen is currently serving on the Xavier College Preparatory Foundation Board and is the chairman of the Xavier College Preparatory Endowment Advisory Committee. He is also on the First United Methodist Foundation Board and is chairman of the Investment Subcommittee of this board.
In the past, Stephen served 4 years as a director on the Arizona State Treasurer's Board of Investment. He served 7 years, including 2 years as Chairman, on the Board of Directors of the Desert Schools Federal Credit Union, a $2 billion Arizona financial institution. He also served 3 years on the national Financial Planning Association Board of Directors.
Stephen has had extensive speaking and writing experience. He is currently authoring articles for the Barnes Investment Advisory, Inc. blog. For 5 years he was a financial writer for the Motley Fool, a well known financial resource. He published the very popular monthly newsletter, Arizona Stock Analysis. Stephen’s speaking engagements have included: Arizona State Bar Annual Convention, the KFNN Radio Talk Show, Arizona Utility Investors Association, Arizona Republic Investment Strategies Forum, Financial Planning Association Retreat, Financial Planning Association Success Forum, Investor Cruise, Phoenix Society of the Financial Planning Association and the Phoenix Society of Financial Services Professionals.
Stephen also made time to teach high school Sunday School, sing in the choir at his church and coach girls’ softball.
Kathie is a Certified Financial PlannerTM. She holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Iowa and a graduate degree from Arizona State University, emphasizing finance, psychology and education. Her role on our team is Financial Planner. Her expertise is in retirement planning and estate analysis.
Kathie is also active in her profession and community. She is a member of the Financial Planning Association and the Central Arizona Estate Planning Council. She is currently serving on the Tax and Legal Seminar Planning Committee. She sits on the Finance Committee and is the 2010 Stewardship Campaign Chairman for the First United Methodist Church.
In the past, Kathie served for 2 years on the Greater Phoenix Financial Planning Association Board of Directors, 3 years on the Central Arizona Estate Planning Council Board of Directors and 3 years on the Xavier College Preparatory Foundation Board of Directors. She was on the host committee for the National Association of Estate Planning Councils annual convention in November, 2008 in Phoenix, Arizona. For 6 years, including 2 as president, she served on the Board of Directors of the First United Methodist Foundation.
Kathie completed 9 years of volunteer service to the Madison School District. For 4 years, she coordinated the Arizona State Tax Credit program for Madison #1, raising over $150,000 for programs and activities for the school. In 2003, she was honored with the “Sharing the Excellence Award” for outstanding service to the Madison District Public Schools.
Kathie has been involved in several exciting ventures with the media. She has been a financial writer for "the Women’s Investment Center", a website launched by CNBC.com. She was selected by Channel 10 (a Fox TV affiliate) to offer weekly financial advice for 50 weeks on their early morning news, “Arizona Morning”. More than 25 years ago, Kathie designed the educational program for women, Feminine Finance™. This program is dedicated to the empowerment of women through increasing financial awareness and skills.
Stephen and Kathie each bring 26 years of experience to Barnes Investment Advisory, Inc. They have been married for 22 years and have one child, Stephanie, age 19, a student at Pepperdine University.

Shelli is responsible for the business operations of BIA, directing the day-to-day management of the firm and administering its regulatory compliance program. With over 18 years of management experience for law firms in Phoenix, she served on the local board of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) and as ALA Administrator Co-Chair for the State Bar of Arizona Law Practice Management Section. Shelli brings to BIA a depth of knowledge in the financial management and human resource management areas, including the administration of employee benefit and qualified retirement plans. Shelli holds a bachelor degree in Justice Studies (Sociology) from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and has earned her IACCPsm certification (Investment Adviser Certified Compliance Professional) from the Investment Adviser Association and National Regulatory Services. Shelli has served in the Internal Revenue Service VITA program (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) and for the Humane Society of the United States.

Daniela is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM and holds a bachelor degree in Business Administration, magna cum laude, with concentrations in Finance, Marketing, and International Business, from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana. At BIA, Inc. she is responsible for building relationships with our clients and our custodian, Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., as well as assisting in financial analyses for client review. She also serves as the Financial Coordinator for the Phoenix chapter of Charity Cup, a non-for-profit organization. Daniela is a recent convert to jazz music and enjoys volunteering with her church.

Dawn brings to Barnes Investment Advisory (BIA) a wealth of experience within the asset management, brokerage and hedge fund sectors of the financial services industry – including positions on Wall Street. Dawn recently relocated to Phoenix from NYC, and performs portfolio administration that includes trade executions, data reconciliations, performance reporting, market research and maintaining the password-protected area for our clients on the BIA web site. Dawn earned her bachelor degree in Business Administration from Western New England College in Springfield, Massachusetts. Having served as a volunteer for the ASPCA in Manhattan, Dawn is exploring volunteer opportunities in the Valley.

Kathleen may be your first introduction to Barnes Investment Advisory, Inc. when you telephone us or visit our office. With 17 years of experience in bank services support, her role includes welcoming clients and colleagues to our firm, scheduling client appointments and a variety of office administration duties. Kathleen and her husband, Gary relocated from Chicago to be closer to their two sons, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. She enjoys being with her family, reading, gardening, walking, and getting together with friends.
