WHAT IS WEALTH IN BALANCE®?

We believe that the key to the success of our work with our clients is our unflappable focus on Wealth in Balance®. There are two sides to this coin, both critically important.

One side of the coin…investment management.

  • We believe that investment management is very serious business.
  • We believe that successful investors:
    • Are defensive, rather than the common perception that success comes from an offensive, active, aggressive stance.
    • Do not chase returns, but thoughtfully design a long term strategy to ride the waves of market, economic and taxation forces.
    • Have the discipline to stick to their strategy.
    • Understand the relationship between their return expectations and their ability to tolerate risk.
    • Diversify their assets. We diversify on two levels. We use an Asset Allocation strategy, employing 9 asset classes, to manage every client portfolio. We also diversify by minimizing our exposure to any one position in a client portfolio.
    • Shop for reasonable prices for assets and also minimize the cost of doing business.
    • Understand the effect of taxes on their investments.
  • This side of our firm is led by our investment manager, Stephen Barnes, CFA, CFP®.

The other side of the coin…financial planning.

  • We believe that serious investment management can not be accomplished without ongoing financial planning.
  • We believe that most people need help with their financial lives. Life is complex and full of interruptions, making it very difficult for people to bring balance to their financial situations.
  • We believe that financial planning is a process of:
    • Unfolding and discovering our clients’ existing financial situations.
    • Organizing and analyzing past activities and future goals.
    • Reporting and recommending modifications for success.
    • Monitoring and revising decisions on a regular basis.
  • We believe that thorough financial planning includes analysis of the following:
    • General Information - Organizing and listing all your critical information.
    • Net Worth - What are all your assets and liabilities?
How are they registered and where are they held?
    • Insurance - Taking an inventory of your insurance coverage.
    • Retirement Projection - What is your financial picture from now to age 100?
    • Investments - How should your investments be managed?
    • Taxes - Are you maximizing your tax situation?
    • Estate Planning - Have you organized your legacy?
  • This side of our firm is led by our financial planner, Kathie Barnes, CFP®.
